Day 1/2-

The first day is a day of travel from the US to Tokyo- leaving on Friday will put you into Tokyo’s Narita airport on Saturday. Plan on arriving anytime before 3pm in order to get from the airport to the hotel on time for our welcome dinner Saturday evening! After checking in and getting settled at the classy ANA hotel, we’ll meet in the hotel lobby and head out to get our first taste of Japanese food- tempura! After dinner those that are ready for a little rest can head back to their rooms, and those that are ready to see a little bit of Tokyo’s famous night life can head to Shibuya.

Day 3-

We start off an exciting day of sightseeing at the oldest and most famous temple in Tokyo- Sensoji (浅草寺). First erected in 645A.D., this temple is dedicated to the Goddess of Mercy. After checking out the rest of the Asakusa district, we’ll head to Akihabara- Electronics Town- before dinner.

Day 4-

In the morning we’ll be heading to the famous Imperial Palace and sight seeing around Tokyo Station. After lunch it’s off to the glitzy shopping district in Ginza (where there is plenty to do besides shop!)

Day 5-

Today we start an early day by heading to Tokyo’s famous fish markets- Tsukiji- for fresh sushi and a look at the largest fish market in the world. Then we board our first bullet train to Nagoya- While traveling at speeds of up to 185 miles/hour, we’ll be in Nagoya in just over an hour and a half. After enjoying the scenery along the way, we’ll check into our next location- the Nagoya Marriott, and then head to Nagoya Castle (名古屋城), originally built in 1525.

Day 6-

After all the traveling and sightseeing, it’s time to see the quaint countryside town of Gero- famous for its hot springs. We head out for a day trip where the highlight of your day will be the wonderful hot springs. There’s nothing like stepping into a steaming hot spring to relax your muscles and ease your mind. Afterwards we’ll try another of Japan’s delicious foods- Soba. When we return to Nagoya a special treat it in store- a night at the Sojitz house where we’ll have a catered party!

Day 7-

Up for another early morning, we’ve off to Japan’s old capital city- Kyoto. In Kyoto we’ll be staying in a traditional Japanese-style inn, called a Ryokan (旅館), where we’ll be sleeping on traditional Japanese futon (布団) on top of tatami (畳).

Day 8-

This morning we’ll have a traditional Japanese-style breakfast, served at the Ryokan. Be prepared for an assault on your senses- fish, rice, soup, and many things you’ve never heard of our seen before! Eat hearty, because if there is one thing Kyoto is famous for, it’s temples, and we’ll be seeing quite a few. Perhaps the most well-known temple in all of Japan- Kinkakuji (金閣寺)- The Golden Pavilion- will be the highlight of our day. Tonight’s menu will be a delicious dinner of yakiniku- where you can choose from a plethora of freshly grilled meats and vegetables.

Day 9-

Saturday morning takes us to Kyoto’s seven story Handicraft center which is a great place to pick up a little piece of Japanese culture to take home. Then we jump on the bullet train back to Tokyo and have a free afternoon in Tokyo do do some last minute sight-seeing and shopping before our farewell party that evening.

Day 10-

We check out of our hotel and say farewell, wishing you safe travels whether you’re returning home or off for more adventure! If you’re flying back to the US, you’ll likely arrive before you left! The wonders of international travel…
